Pens Update – 20 Sep 07

The Pittsburgh Penguins attended their second Mellon Arena Training Camp session today, one day before traveling to Detroit for pre-season game #3 against the Red Wings at 7:30 PM on Friday night.  In a bit of good news, Petr Sykora was back on the ice today and skating well.

The team spent much of the day working positional play, neutral zone trap and forecheck drills, and special teams practice.  At the end of practice, the team went through some grueling skating drills under the direction of Wilkes-Barre/Scranton skating coach Besa Tzintsadze.  Besa’s drills focused on skating skills for improving explosiveness, power and quickness.  It was a physically demanding drill at the end of a full practice.

On Friday, the Penguins are in Detroit for pre-season game #3, and then return home on Saturday to host the Red Wings in pre-season game #4, the first pre-season matchup to be played in Pittsburgh.  The game will be aired live over the internet via Pens TV on Pittsburgh, which is also accessible here from the Video Page

Tonight, the Pittsburgh Penguins held a Town Hall for Season Ticket Holders that was aired live on Pittsburgh  Sidney Crosby, Jordan Staal, Marc-Andre Fleury, Ryan Whitney, and Colby Armstrong were all on-hand for a fun question and answer session that was emceed by Penguins broadcaster Paul “Steigy” Steigerwald.  Penguins CEO Ken Sawyer and team president

David Morehouse provided an update on the new arena project and outlined plans to conduct focus groups of season ticket holders regarding the new arena.  Penguins GM Ray Shero also addressed the season ticket holders regarding the upcoming season.  Perhaps one of the funniest moments of the evening was Marc-Andre Fleury’s impression of Jeane Girard from the Talladega Nights movie, “Ricky Bobby is fast, but I am faster!”.  Hilarious!  Pictures of the event are posted HERE.
